Team Building Hunter Valley: Activities Your Team Will Actually Look Forward To

The Hunter Valley is Australia’s most-loved corporate retreat destination, and for good reason. Two hours from Sydney, world-class wineries, sprawling resort venues, and a setting that practically forces people to relax. Great Race runs team building events across Pokolbin, Lovedale, and Cessnock – hosted by professional actors who know exactly how to keep the energy high when the wine starts flowing and the conference room doors swing open.

Team Building Activities in the Hunter Valley

The Hunter Valley is built for the kind of multi-format days we love being a part of. A morning Amazing Race weaving between cellar doors, an afternoon Game Show back at the resort, a Survivor session on the lawns before dinner – we routinely string activities together across a single offsite to fill the day with something genuinely worth being there for.

Vineyard Amazing Race Hunter Valley

A Hunter Valley exclusive and easily one of the most fun ways to spend a day in wine country. Teams take a map, a set of cryptic clues, and head out across the Hunter’s most iconic vineyards and cellar doors. Each checkpoint delivers a new challenge: a blind wine tasting, a garden-games challenge, a cryptic puzzle, a construction task, or an unexpected detour through Hunter Valley Gardens. Adventurous, social, and the perfect way to see more of the region than the inside of a tasting room. Start point, finish point, and duration are all fully customisable.

Classic Amazing Race Hunter Valley

For groups based at one of the larger resorts or staying within Pokolbin, the Classic Amazing Race works just as well on foot. Teams race through the grounds, between buildings, and out to nearby landmarks, solving cryptic clues and tackling challenges at every checkpoint. Same competitive format, scaled to your venue.

Game Show Hunter Valley

The reliable favourite for corporate retreats and conferences. Teams compete across challenges drawn from Wheel of Fortune, Sale of the Century, The Price is Right, Don’t Forget The Lyrics, and Show Me The Movie, all hosted by a professional actor who keeps the pressure on from first round to last. Runs perfectly in any resort function room, conference space, or marquee, and is one of our most-booked activities for Hunter Valley offsites.

Taskmaster Hunter Valley

Based on the hit TV show, Taskmaster sets up absurd creative challenges with no obvious right answer. Your host plays the Taskmaster in full character, judging every attempt with complete authority and very little mercy. Fast, lateral, and consistently hilarious. A great change of pace after a heavy conference session or before dinner.

Minute to Win It Hunter Valley

High-energy, loud, and inclusive. Minute to Win It turns everyday objects into surprisingly tricky challenges and a lot of competitive noise. Works at any scale, runs in any indoor venue, and breaks the ice faster than any other format in our line-up; ideal for the first night of a multi-day retreat.

Survivor Hunter Valley

Inspired by the immunity challenges from the hit TV show, Survivor puts teams through a series of physical and mental challenges with one goal: be the last tribe standing. The Hunter’s resort lawns and open grounds are made for it, and the format suits groups that want some real competitive stakes before they settle in for the evening. This is also an ideal outdoor team building option for teams in a more remote part of the Hunter Valley.

Who Is This For?

Corporate Teams in the Hunter Valley

The Hunter Valley draws corporate groups from Sydney, Newcastle, and beyond for one reason: it works as a destination. Conferences, leadership offsites, EOFY weekends, strategic planning days, and Christmas parties all routinely land here. The HR managers and EAs organising these events tell us the same thing – getting people out of the city is the easy part; making the activities feel worth the trip is what they’re looking for. Great Race is built for exactly that.

There’s no particular skill, fitness level, or personality type required. The activities are designed so every kind of person finds something to enjoy, and our professional actor hosts make sure the energy holds across multi-day formats – even when the wine is doing its work.

Any Group Size, Any Venue

Our activities run for groups of 10 to 500+ and scale across the kind of venues the Hunter is known for. The Game Show, Taskmaster, and Minute to Win It run in any private function space – a Crowne Plaza conference room, a Chateau Elan chapel, a marquee on the lawns, or anywhere with tables and floor space. For the Vineyard Amazing Race and Survivor, the region itself is the venue, and we’ll work with your accommodation to design something that fits the day. Turn up, and we’ll handle the rest.

Why Great Race?

The short answer is our hosts. Every Great Race event is run by professional actors. Trained performers, not a colleague with a microphone or a generic event facilitator. In a retreat setting where the day is long and the energy needs to last from morning sessions through to dinner, the difference is the entire reason events land the way they do.

We’ve been running events since 2009 at a volume of 500+ per year across Australia. The Hunter Valley is one of our most-booked regional destinations, and our team has the local knowledge to design a day around your resort, your accommodation, and your group – whether that’s a single afternoon activity or a full multi-day retreat agenda.

We also build our activities around TV formats people already know: Amazing Race, Game Show, Taskmaster, Survivor. No explanation period, no warm-up required. Everyone’s on board from the moment it starts.

Hunter Valley Team Building for Every Occasion

The Hunter Valley’s most popular bookings are leadership offsites, conferences, EOFY weekends, and Christmas parties; the kind of events where the venue does half the work and the activity does the other half. We also run graduate inductions, strategic planning offsites, project milestone retreats, and incentive trips. Whatever the reason your group is heading to the Hunter, we know how to make the day count.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book team building in the Hunter Valley?

We recommend booking 6 weeks in advance for best availability - and earlier still for peak periods like EOFY, Christmas, and long weekends, when the region's accommodation books out fast. If your timeline is tight, get in touch. As long as we have availability, we'll make it happen.

Can Great Race coordinate with our resort or accommodation?

Yes. We regularly coordinate with the events teams  in the Hunter's resorts and venues, including Crowne Plaza, Chateau Elan, Hunter Valley Gardens, and Kirkton Park, so logistics are handled smoothly. Send us your venue and dates, and we'll design the day around them.

Do you run activities across multiple days?

Yes. We're well set up for retreat-style agendas; an outdoor Vineyard Amazing Race on day one, a Game Show after dinner, a Survivor session before checkout. Plenty of clients book us across two or three formats over the course of a weekend.

Can activities work for teams with different fitness levels?

Yes. Physical speed is never the deciding factor in any of our activities. There's a role for everyone in the team, and our challenges are designed around personality and creativity rather than physical ability.
